On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to thank Andrei for his great contributions during his 16 seasons as a proud member of the Montreal Canadiens. Arguably one of the best defensemen in franchise history, Andrei was a model of dedication to the great game of hockey. A respected figure around the league and among his teammates, Andrei demonstrated leadership both on and off the ice. Andrei’s commitment to our franchise was second to none, proven by his overcoming three serious and potentially career-ending injuries. I would like to wish Andrei the best of luck in the next step of his career, and happiness with his family.

While he spent time looking ahead to his next opportunities, Markov spoke more often of the past, and his tenure with the Canadiens, which now is complete.
“I made it clear I wanted to stay with the Montreal Canadiens my whole career, but it’s a business, I don’t blame anyone,” Markov explained. “My dream was always to win the Stanley Cup and bring it to Montreal; but now it is time for me to move on.”

An unrestricted free agent who averaged $5.75 million per-year on his previous contract, Markov became somewhat expendable when the Canadiens signed former Washington Capitals defenseman Karl Alzner to a five-year deal July 1. With just about $18 million committed annually the next four years to three defensemen — Shea Weber, Jeff Petry, and Alzner — the Canadiens were not Cheap Bike Jerseys For Men looking Cheap Authentic Jerseys From China to invest in a big contract with Markov, no matter their history with the stalwart defenseman.
