One thing there wasn’t much of at Shinnecock Hills on Thursday? Birdies. Made putts. Greens in regulation. Fairways hit.
Rory McIlroy has said several times over the past few weeks that he’s not a fan of featured groups – he’d rather the big-name players end up together organically because they’re in contention on the weekend.
Even the early leaders – Ian Poulter and Scott Piercy, who Aston Villa Cheap Jerseys finished 1-under – struggled through their day, surviving more than thriving.
Patience is everything, especially this week and especially any U.S. Open, Poulter said. Every one of the U.S. Opens I’ve played in the past, you know, I’ve kind of – I’ve been disappointed. I’ve been angry. I’ve been frustrated. They’re tough. They’re always set up difficult. They’re supposed to be difficult.
So, despite their terrible start, McIlroy, Mickelson and Spieth aren’t completely dead and buried just yet.
But whether there’s hope for improvement on Friday – or perhaps more importantly, whether Shinnecock will allow for it – is certainly an open question.
What is there to make of Key? There’s a lot of potential with him, but Cheap NFL Jerseys the consistency hasn’t been there. With Khalil Mack in the last season of his contract, Bruce Irvin (30) likely to start aging out of his prime and the team just generally having little depth on the defensive side of the ball, hitting on a guy like Key would be big for Oakland.
Despite losing Vinny Curry as a cap casualty this offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles’ pass-rushing unit is still loaded with Brandon Graham, Michael Bennett, Chris Long and Derek Barnett making up the two-deep. Barnett, a 2017 first-round pick, needs to refine his inside counter move as a pass-rusher before he pushes Graham or Bennett from a starting role.
In three years at Tennessee, Barnett posted 32 sacks and 52 tackles for loss, good enough numbers to have him declare early for the draft as a true junior. At the combine, he ran a 4.88-second 40-yard dash and a 6.96-second three-cone, matching his profile on the field of a churning edge-bender who was not explosive.
